THE "FOUR PHASES" OF EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT

Emergency management professionals typically break down their responsibilities into four phases, which form a cycle. This four-phase cycle applies to you too.

Untitled design (5).png

It begins with PREPAREDNESS activities that get a community ready before an emergency (including planning, training, and exercising).

Next are the RESPONSE actions that help protect lives and property during a disaster.

RECOVERY efforts are how we build back after a disaster.

MITIGATION projects reduce future risks from hazards – these may be put in place before or after a disaster, but they are always intended to improve conditions before the next event.

Pasquotank-Camden Emergency Management is a two-person department available 24/7/365. We work with all city and county agencies to coordinate emergency response plans along with having the responsibility to identify vulnerabilities, effectively mitigate disasters, educate the public, plan for all-hazard emergency situations, ensure continuity of government and business, and to facilitate an effective recovery. Pasquotank-Camden EM will coordinate with local, state, and federal agencies, as well as private entities to develop, maintain, and implement the Emergency Operations Plan and manage the Emergency Operation Center.

We respond to multiple calls for service, both routine and emergency, which requires 24 hour – 7 days a week coverage to provide resource allocation and coordination for emergency/support agencies. Emergency Management is also responsible for the activation, training, and staffing of the Emergency Operations Center or Mobile Command Post when an emergency threatens any portion of Pasquotank or Camden County.  This includes the coordination of evacuation and shelter openings, resource mobilization/reception/accountability, public notification and coordination of emergency assistance to the citizens of our area (including our Vulnerable Population and non-English speaking population).

We provide updated emergency information to our emergency personnel/volunteer agencies/media/private partners.  This is disseminated utilizing an email distribution list and via Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/PasqCamEM.  This includes notification of weather-related threats, hazardous material incidents, routine/emergency road closures and critical information to appropriate agencies.
